Writers, Ink Podcast: Author Matthew Blake Went From Writing Screenplays to Crafting a Debut Thriller That Sold for Millions

BookTrib is proud to present to our readers the Writers, Ink podcast, a show about the business of writing.

J.K. Rowling was nearly homeless when she wrote the first Harry Potter book. Stephen King penned Carrie on a small desk wedged between a washer and dryer. James Patterson worked in advertising and famously wrote the Toys “R” Us theme song long before becoming an author.

Whether you’re traditionally published or indie, writing a good book is only the first step in becoming a successful author. The days of just turning a manuscript in to your editor and walking away are gone. If you want to succeed in today’s publishing world, you need to understand every aspect of the business — editing, formatting, marketing, contracts. It all starts with a good book, then the real work begins.

Join international bestselling author J.D. Barker and indie powerhouse Zach Bohannon as they gain unique insight and valuable advice from the most prolific and accomplished authors in the business.

This Week’s Episode

Join hosts J.D. Barker, Christine Daigle, JP Rindfleisch, and Kevin Tumlinson as they discuss the week’s entertainment news, including some chatter on works entering the public domain (Steamboat Willie slasher, anybody?) Then, stick around as Christine chats with speechwriter-turned-novelist Matthew Blake!

Matthew Blake is a London-based author who has also worked as a screenwriter with the BBC, ITV Studios, and numerous other UK indies. Before writing fiction, Matthew worked as a researcher and speechwriter at the Palace of Westminster. His debut novel, Anna O, became an international sensation on submission, garnering 16 offers within 48 hours before going on to secure multiple record-breaking deals around the globe. It was released in the US on January 2nd and is available now wherever books are sold.
