Editorial Director, Atlantic Non-Fiction – London

Do you live and breathe brilliant non-fiction? Are you a curious, intellectually engaged reader with an insatiable appetite for great writing and bold thinking? Are you proactive and engaged in the world of ideas and stories? Can you combine immaculate editorial taste and standards with commercial nous and an instinct for what makes a book really capture readers’ imaginations, break out in the market and endure?

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen at award-winning independent publisher Atlantic Books for an Editorial Director. Commissiong 8-10 titles per year for the company’s flagship non-fiction imprint, taking a key role in a dynamic new team, this is a chance to see your books make deep and lasting impact: in-house, across the independent alliance, and in the market.

Atlantic Non-Fiction has an enviable heritage of publishing bold thinkers and prizewinning writers in Politics, History, Memoir, Science and Ideas. From the late Christopher Hitchens to Tomiwa Owolade, from Kai Bird and Martin J Sherwin’s American Prometheus to Sir Anthony Seldon’s Johnson at 10, from John Kampfner’s Why The Germans Do it Better to Isabel Hardman’s Why We Get the Wrong Politicians, Atlantic Non-Fiction has always sparked conversation, captured the imaginations of readers around the world, and surprised the bestseller lists.

Creative, proactive and dynamic, you’ll need an independent spirit, a track record of excellent and commercially successful commissioning, a global outlook and a hunger for new ideas. You’ll be as comfortable proactively generating projects and approaching potential writers as you are fielding submissions from literary agents both domestic and international.

To apply, please send a covering letter and CV to Group Non-Fiction Publisher Ed Faulkner, outlining why you are interested and what you believe you could bring to Atlantic: edfaulkner@atlantic-books.co.uk.
