The Library of Virginia has announced the 13 finalists for the People’s Choice Awards, which honors the most requested fiction and nonfiction titles published in Virginia, and a public vote through July will determine the winners.

Winners will be announced at the 27th Annual Virginia Literary Awards Celebration Sept. 21; one winner in each category will receive a monetary prize of $2,500.

Public voting is open online through July 31.

This year’s fiction category finalists include authors David Baldacci (Simply Lies), Rachel Beanland (The House is On Fire), Martin Clark (The Plinko Bounce), Alix E. Harrow (Starling House), Sadeqa Johnson (The House of Eve), and Angie Kim (Happiness Falls).

The nonfiction finalists are Mari K. Eder (The Girls Who Fought Crime: The Untold True Story of the Country’s First Female Investigator and Her Crime Fighting Squad), Drew Gilpin Faust (Necessary Trouble: Growing Up at Midcentury), Russ Ford (Crossing the River Styx: The Memoir of a Death Row Chaplain), Cassandra A. Good (First Family: George Washington’s Heirs and the Making of America), Sheila Johnson (Walk Through Fire: A Memoir of Love, Loss, and Triumph), Dean King (Guardians of the Valley: John Muir and the Friendship That Saved Yosemite), and Rachel Jamison Webster (Benjamin Banneker and Us: Eleven Generations of an American Family).
