Coronation Street legend will expose soap secrets in new tell-all book

Coronation Street legend Charlie Lawson is set to expose soap secrets in a new tell-all book.

It’s after learning he is facing legal action over £50,000 unpaid debt.

The explosive memoir will be out in October, according to self-publishing company New Generation Publishing.

The iconic actor, best known for his role as Jim MacDonald, in Coronation Street is publishing claims of “abuse in the entertainment industry”.

However the 64-year-old – who has spent a total of 40 years on stage and screen – will also write about the “lighter times as Lawson shares behind-the-scenes pranks, cast disputes, and the chaos of celebrity culture during his 28-year tenure on Britain’s beloved soap.”

Charlie said: “It has been both cathartic and, at times, difficult, to reflect on my sixty-five years, but, having completed my autobiography, I find myself smiling, so I do. The craic has been 90, as we say!”

His new memoir has been described as “uniquely entertaining, eye-opening and enthralling”.

“Charlie not only shines a light on the less glamorous side of the profession but also recounts a series of riotous and hilarious episodes, featuring a host of well-known partners-in-crime like Adrian Dunbar, Neil Morrissey and Martin Clunes“, the acquisition statement said.

“Charlie unveils a life as dramatic off-screen as his on-screen roles. The memoir reveals challenging times growing up in Northern Ireland during The Troubles as well as exposing abuse in the entertainment industry.

“This contrasts with lighter times as Lawson shares behind-the-scenes pranks, cast disputes, and the chaos of celebrity culture during his 28-year tenure on Britain’s beloved soap.

“Lawson’s career also includes performing with the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford, treading the boards in the National Theatre and Old Vic and work with a host of celebrated actors and directors in ground-breaking productions like Harry’s Game, Mike Leigh’s Four Days in July and alongside Gary Oldman in Alan Clarke’s The Firm.

“Charlie tells with unflinching honesty how infidelity wrecked one marriage, while living through his second-wife’s violent struggles with addiction pushed him to the brink of sanity.

Charles Lawson teases the return of Jim McDonald

“This memoir offers a raw, humorous, and insightful glimpse into the tumultuous life of a fearless actor.”

Publisher Tom Chalmers said: “We are thrilled to be publishing Charlie’s candid memoir with New Generation Publishing.

“As soon as we spoke to Charlie, I knew this was a book that deserved to be published and it was fantastic to put a joint deal together.

“The book is full of entertaining and revealing anecdotes, which make it a must-read. Charlie is one of the UK’s national TV treasures and we are delighted to add his memoir to our publishing list.”

Soap star Jim has missed deadlines to repay £37,000 from the 2018 failure of his Cheshire-based deli.

He now faces a ban from running any more companies after failing to pay off his debts.

The 64-year-old, last seen in the soap in 2018, has been threatened with legal action.

He’s now turned his attention to writing – wth his new book out later this year.

Charlie tweeted: “@BookBrunch and @NGPublishing Absolutely delighted to be in partnership with this lot. Roll on October!! Fill yer boots!!!”
