UCP is teaming with Side Naegle, Jenna Bush Hager’s Thousand Voices and Ali Krug’s Dinner Party Productions to develop a series adaptation of Chris Whitaker’s new novel All the Colors of the Dark.

Sarah Gubbins (Pam & Tommy, Better Things) will adapt the project. Executive producers are Naegle, Krug, Hager, Ben Spector (President of Thousand Voices) and Whitaker, who also wroteTall Oaks, All the Wicked Girls and We Begin at the End.

The story take place in the small town of Monta Clare, Missouri, where an abduction of a teenage girl is intercepted by the most unlikely hero. As a result, the lives of all involved are set on an unusual trajectory. Patch, a one-eyed local boy who fancies himself a pirate, saves the girl and, in doing so, leaves heartache in his wake. His best friend Saint, fiercely loyal, soon discovers that the line between triumph and tragedy has never been finer. Their search for answers will lead them to truths that could mean losing one another.

“Chris Whitaker has created a beautiful masterpiece in All the Colors of the Dark,” said Bush Hager in a statement. “This genre-bending book combines small-town America and the deep dedication of friendship inside an epic thriller. We are so excited to partner with dynamos Sue Naegle and Ali Krug and the brilliant Sarah Gubbins to bring this incredible book to television.”

“As soon as I met with Jenna, Sue and the UCP team, I knew there was no one I trusted more to adapt this story for the screen,” added Whitaker in a statement. “And from my first conversation with Sarah, I knew we’d found our dream writer. Together, their vision, passion and creativity is staggering, and I’m lucky to be on their team.”

Universal Studio Group’s Creative Acquisitions and IP Management team was instrumental in securing the rights to the novel.

Gubbins is repped by UTA and Hansen Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller, Gellman, Meigs and Fox.
