Poetry collection dedicated to the arrival of coloured women

Elsies River residents beam with pride as local poet, Cheronne Roberts, releases her debut collection of poetry. She’s titled the collection ‘A Color Rose’ and has pridefully dedicated the work to all coloured women.

‘Set me free from society. Set me free from the color within my identity.’ This one line sheds a light on the running theme within her collection. That theme being the arrival of coloured women after they’ve always found themselves in dire circumstances whether it be racial laws, socio-economic factors or just life.

Cheronne brings readers along as she guides them through the seasons of her journey, from winter to spring. The title reflects the expedition to overcome adversity and trauma whilst exploring fiction and dreams within the mind. She manages to capture the beauty and darkness of one’s truth authentically. Readers are allowed to accompany her on the journey of self-discovery to self-worth. This is the journey which ultimately led her to discover the strength of acknowledging self-love after the war waged for inner peace.

Cheronne’s work is currently available at the National Library of South Africa and is also being sold by retailers such as Barnes & Noble, Powell’s and Amazon.
