James Bond Meets The Sandlot in New Book “Baseball Spy”

DALLAS (KDAF) — Imagine if James Bond met “The Sandlot,” and you’d get the premise of “Baseball Spy,” a new book by Scott Reister that follows the story of a 14-year-old little leaguer who discovers that someone on his team is an undercover cyber spy.

Reister, a sportscaster and Dallas native, grew up playing baseball in the metroplex, which is what originally inspired the idea for the book.

“I grew up in Dallas, playing little league, and I always had this weird thought in my head like, ‘What if little league was life or death?’” Reister said. “When I was up to bat, I would imagine that if I didn’t get a hit, there was a bad guy somewhere that would blow everything up…I just thought that would be such a cool book or movie, and it kind of just stuck with me my whole life.”

The book is primarily targeted toward kids age 9+, but Reister said adults seem to love it, too — it’s a homerun for adventure lovers, no matter what age.

“It’s one of those where I sort of engineered this a certain way, with major twists and turns,” Reister said. “I had a girl at a school visit tell me that the girl in this book, Amber, was so inspiring to her, and she really looked up to Amber. That just gave me goosebumps because this is a figment of my imagination that she’s talking about — to have that kind of impact on kids and adults…it’s just so surreal.”

“Baseball Spy” is just the first novel in a series titled “Sports Spy,” which will include two more books exploring the high-stakes and thrilling environment of espionage combined with football and basketball.

You can buy “Baseball Spy” now on Amazon or locally at the Richardson Barnes & Noble — and stay tuned for the next books in the series.
