New Driver Theory Test goes live today – Are you studying the right book?

People preparing for the Driver Theory Test are being warned to make sure they are studying the right questions as the test gets its first update in five years.

The new version of the test, featuring updated questions focused on recent changes to the law, went live for the first time today.

Around 200,000 people take the test each year – with nearly half failing at the first time of asking.

The Road Safety Authority (RSA) is warning anyone taking the test from today onward to make sure they have the 2024 edition of the ‘Driver Theory Test Question’ book, which was published in May.

Meanwhile, the RSA is offering refunds to anyone who recently purchased the older version of the app if the material is no longer relevant to the test they are taking.

On The Pat Kenny Show this morning, Transport expert Conor Faughnan said learner drivers that take the time to study the questions in advance should pass the test without difficulty.

He said those that don’t could find themselves coming unstuck.

“Most people pass and, you know, having read the material and done the test myself back in the day, without being facetious, if you put any sort of effort in, you really should pass,” he said.

“Nearly half of people pass first time round but the second time around, the pass rate is 96%.

“Honestly, you know, if you’re regularly failing that theory test, it might even be a literacy or language issue or something.”

You can find the latest revision materials on the RSA website.

The RSA is also warning people against “unlicensed and unofficial” revision material apps and websites on the market.

It says the sites are not licenced and do not have the official Driver Theory Test questions.
