Hampshire actress turns her talent to writing and pens first novel

Shalina Casey, from Alresford, is joyfully marking the debut of her first novel called The Best Death. It will be available from July 16 at P&G Wells, Winchester.

She is usually known for her talents as an actress or as an award-winning screenwriter, however she was inspired to pen to paper by a screenplay that she had written.

In The Best Death, Shalina presents a transformative narrative that “promises to challenge readers in ways beyond their imagination.”

Shalina said her goal was to “add multiple layers to the story, enhancing its depth and making it more engaging and compelling.”

The Best Death is an “absorbing, gripping and compelling” story in which Shalina said she channelled her “deep thoughts and emotions”.

It is filled with emotional resilience and human complexity and inflamed by dark humour, intricate characters and unexpected twists and turns.

This book is about characters from diverse backgrounds and circumstances who navigate their own personal tribulations. It gathers a mix of hope, uncertainty, resilience and strength.

Shalina said: “I hope to lead individuals to rekindle their passion for life and to help everyone who suffers with mental health conditions.”

She wishes her book to convey that “no matter what challenges life presents us with, there is always a way to start anew.”

Shalina, a 47-year-old single mother of two children aged 13 and nine years, said she was looking forward to For The Best Death’s release, in September, when she will be holding an opening event at P&G Wells.

Glasses of Champagne will be available for guests to enjoy alongside a short presentation. Moreover, she plans to do a Q&A session and a book signing.

Additionally, Shalina has written another book ‘Amie and the Diseased Mind’ which is currently with her editor and she is now working on her third book called ‘Squashed’.
