Emilia Clarke Joins Charlie Hunnam in New Comic Book Adaptation

Game of Thrones alum Emilia Clarke is set to conquer a new role in a planned Amazon Prime Video show. The Emmy-nominated actor joins Charlie Hunnam and others in the upcoming crime series, Criminal.

Per Deadline, Clarke joins Criminal as one of its lead actors. The British star will portray Mallory, a witty, daring and slick armed robber who is part of a heist crew alongside Gus Halper (Ricky Lawless). While living on the wrong side of the law, Mallory and Gus are involved in a Bonnie and Clyde-like romantic affair. However, Mallory keeps hiding secrets that risk putting her life, relationship and crew’s fate in danger.

The world of Game of Thrones is cruel and has produced some truly despicable characters, including the likes of Ramsay Bolton.

Clarke joins a cast that includes Sons of Anarchy‘s Hunnam, who was confirmed for Criminal in late May when the project was initially announced. Hunnam plays the main protagonist, Leo, who is “a brilliant master thief who sees all the angles and specializes in plans with no guns and no violence. Like a chess player, Leo thinks three moves ahead. Other crooks think he’s a coward, especially compared to his father Tommy, who went to jail for murdering the most feared man in the city, Teeg Lawless.” The cast also features Andor star Arjia Arjona, A Different World alum Kadeem Hardison, Richard Jenkins, John Hawkes, Pat Healy, Michael Mando and Logan Browning.

Criminal Is Based on the Comic Book Series

Prime Video’s Criminal is based on the titular award-winning comic book series by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips. The small-screen adaptation is described as an “interlocking universe of crime stories,” with Brubaker serving as an executive producer and showrunner alongside Jordan Harper. Amazon MGM Studios will produce the series alongside Legendary Television, while Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden will direct the first four episodes.

Who Would Win: Game of Thrones’ Jaime Lannister or House of the Dragon’s Criston Cole?

The Kingsguard plays a vital role in both Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, and it introduces some of the greatest fighters in Westeros’s history to both shows. None of the Kingsguard’s members are more well-known than Jaime Lannister and Criston Cole, who play similar roles in the events of GoT and HotD, respectively. Of these two knights, which one do you think would win in a 1-on-1 battle?

Clarke is best known for portraying Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones throughout its 8-season run. The acclaimed actor recently opened up about the serious health scare she suffered during the production of the hallowed fantasy series.

Clarke’s most recent TV appearance saw her play G’iah in the ill-fated Marvel Cinematic Universe series, Secret Invasion, featuring alongside Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Olivia Colman and Kingsley Ben-Adir. She has also notably featured in big-screen titles such as Solo: A Star Wars Story and Last Christmas.

No production or release window has been confirmed for Criminal.
