Mrs. Brewers Beneficial and Bedazzling Book Club expanding young minds

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – Summer is when teachers take their break too, except this teacher. Amy Brewer cares about her students so much that she created a summer book club to keep their minds growing.

Brewer, a second-grade teacher at Grace Christian School, said, “To foster a deeper love of reading books in the summer, second would be to encourage struggling readers. Another reason would be to provide an alternative to electronics.”

Brewer says even with the new and ever evolving technology, the needs of students and the way teachers need to love them hasn’t changed. She has seen a huge difference in children because of electronics, which is why she focuses on reading as an alternative.

“Please get your child, your children, into reading more. It doesn’t have to be a huge long novel, but just get them in a summer library program. See if your school offers any book clubs or camps,” Brewer said.

Along with spreading love for reading, Brewer also focuses on spreading God’s love and giving His love to others. With this book club, she feels that she has been able to do so.

“I think this book club has been an avenue of one way I can do that,” Brewer said.

Mrs. Brewer’s Beneficial and Bedazzling Book Club meets one last time on July 25, and she hopes to spread this idea to teachers everywhere.
