Taylor Swift breaks silence on Tortured Poets album reviews as critic stays anonymous after backlash

Taylor Swift has reacted to her new album reviews after one critic asked to remain anonymous with their less than favourable take on The Tortured Poets Department over fear of a backlash from the singer’s loyal fanbase

The 34-year-old American singer released her 11th studio album on Friday

Taylor Swift has reacted to The Tortured Poets Department album reviews, with the hitmaker insisting she is moved by the positive press the 31 tracks have received.

The 34-year-old American singer released her 11th studio album on Friday, with her also unveiling an accompanying anthology. In total, she released 31 tracks. Reviews have been mostly positive but one magazine critic who posted a less than glowing review requested to remain anonymous over fears of trolling from Swift’s loyal fans.

The reviewer decided not to have their name in the byline when they reviewed the album for the entertainment website Paste. The magazine included an editor’s note on its social media pages, noting how when they reviewed Taylor’s 2019 album Lover, the writer received threats of violence from trolls.

The less-than-glowing review shared on Paste’s website, sees the writer touch on how Taylor’s latest album sees her “infantilise the very people who buy into her music and drive her successes upwards in the first place”. The review also adds: “There is nothing poetic about a billionaire.”

And now Taylor has broken her silence following the album’s release and the reviews that have rolled in afterward. The hitmaker, who is currently basking in her album’s success, has taken to her social media pages to react to the reviews of her latest body of work.

On Sunday, Taylor took to both Instagram and Twitter to repost a number of reviews shared by big publications like Rolling Stone, among others. Sharing them with her followers, she captioned each one with her own lyrics.

Sharing the review from Rolling Stone Taylor quoted the title track when she penned: “And that’s the closest I’ve come to my heart exploding,” which was in response to the publication describing The Tortured Poets Department as combining “the intimacy of Folklore and Evermore with the synth-pop gloss of Midnights to create music that’s wildly ambitious and gloriously chaotic”.

She then shared The Times’ five-star review, quoting The Alchemy lyrics when she penned: “These Chemicals hit me like white wine.” With her also sharing Helen Brown’s review from The Independent, who wrote: “The whole album is a terrific reminder of the intense, personal connection Swift can conjure in song.”

Responding to Brown’s review, Taylor quoted the title track once again when she wrote: “Everyone we know understands why it’s meant to be”.

iNews also reviewed the new album, with the publication giving it a five-star review and branding it “unique” and noting how Taylor is “emotionally poised”. Alongside the review, Taylor quoted So High School, which is about Travis Kelce, with her penning: “I feel like laughing in the middle of practice.”

Taylor Swift fans looking at resale tickets for the upcoming Eras Tour in the UK can purchase them from a number of online retailers right now. Although sellers, including and Vivid Seats, are not “official” retailers, they do have a number of strict terms and conditions in place to keep ticket buyers and ticket sellers safe.
