Best Fiction Books To Read By Stephen King, Arundhati Roy, George Orwell And More

Best Fiction Books To Read: Literary novels and books are ways of looking at the world from someone else’s perspective. Subjectivity and objectivity both intermingle when one reads a book, as there are things that align with your own worldview, and some seem alien from your own place in time. This is why some authors such as George Orwell, Arundhati Roy, and Stephen King stand out to be timeless voices that can be revisited at any time. While Orwell provides a critique of authoritarian regimes, Stephen lends his voice in calling out to the arcane and the bizarre.

If you recently visited the fiction section of your local library and wondered what are the best books to read for the most insight into the unknown, then we’re here to help you out. These are certified top rated books that come from figures of prominence. They’re always being talked about, so reading them is going to be more than intellectually useful for you. Use their insights to get a leg over other people through these books.

Best Books To Read In Fiction: Animal Farm, Samsara And More

These novels come from both Indian and international authors, so as to ensure that you get a diverse selection of texts. Whether you want more wisdom on our way of life, or simply learn about the arcane concepts of the Samsara and more, then these literary books are for you.

1. Animal Farm By George Orwell

Coming from the late science fiction author George Orwell, Animal Farm features a hypothetical scenario that arouses curiosity to the maximum. It examines the nature of power and sees it through the eyes of several animals who reside on their farm, and overthrow their oppressive masters. Initially, everything on the farm is taking shape towards a utopian society.

However, the rebel leaders Napoleon and Snowball who themselves triggered the uprising start bickering. What starts out as separation in teams and political tactics eventually turns into a full-blown war. This text has remained consistently talked about over the course of decades since its publishing, given how it is essentially a critique of the Russian Revolution of 1917. Animal Farm Book Price: Rs. 309.

2. Samsara: Enter The Valley Of The Gods By Saksham Garg

Saksham Garg’s Samsara emerges as science fiction cum mythological fantasy that takes the reader on a magical journey. Based on the premise of a few men trying to survive after their resources are drained in the Himalayas, the book takes a radical turn whereby they are transmigrated into the ancient era of the Gods. This is when they start finding ancient Yogis and mystical animals in the vicinity, and learn about what has transpired.

Slowly, Aman Chandra and the accompanying ten souls of the Samsara put two and two together to find out that if they want a chance at survival, then learning the art of yogic sorcery is their only shot. There is also an involvement of several ancient Hindu gods, but the author keeps the mystery up for a long period of time. Samsara Book Price: Rs. 164.

3. The Girl Who Knew Too Much By Vikrant Khanna

Coming from Vikrant Khanna, who is a captain in the Merchant Navy, this unexpected paranormal romance brings a lot of interesting connotations with it. The book is centred around Akshara, who is grieving the loss of her mother. She spends most of her time alone in the park as she tries to console herself. However, she meets Harry, who becomes a source of support.

One day, Harry tells her a story about how a girl, much like her, reunited with her boyfriend just out of love. While the story gives her hope for a possible reunion with her own mother, things seem to be surreal, even to the point of unreality. What is the mystery behind the boy who she just met, and will her mother ever come back? The Girl Who Knew Too Much Book Price: Rs. 195.

4. THE SHINING By Stephen King

An unmistakable classic by the King of Horror himself, The Shining is perhaps one of the biggest hits by the popular author. You must perhaps be aware of the book’s story through its infamous cinematic adaptation of the same name by director Stanley Kubrick. While the film more than does justice to the source material, it leaves out some contextual information, purely due to the short time of storytelling that film as a medium provides.

This gothic horror novel features Jack, who moves with his family to the massive hotel that is The Overlook over the winter months. Located in the Colorado Mountains, The Overlook appears to be peaceful, but its own evil past keeps coming back to haunt these new caretakers. The Shining Book Price: Rs. 1,267.

5. The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy

Perhaps one of the most popular novels by Roy, The God of Small Things follows the tale of two twins Rahel and Esthappen in Kerala. The year is 1969, and the childhood innocence of the twins keeps them shielded from the broken family that they’re a part of. While their parents are separate, they live with their mother’s family, which features their grandmother (who is blind, and yet plays the violin), Uncle Chacko and Baby Kochamma (who is their sworn enemy).

While the comical dynamics of the family continue to build, what they know as life is turned upside down by the arrival of their English cousin, Sophie Mol, with her mother. During the Christmas visit, not only the relationship of the family strains, but political upheaval in their surrounding starts taking place. It’s a thought-provoking treatise on how even the mundane is moved by the things that dictate the larger picture. The God of Small Things Book Price: Rs. 1,199.
