The festival’s popular Pop-Up Bookshop, which offers a wide selection of new and pre-loved books, will return.

One of the hottest tickets on the book and arts festival circuit plans to launch its programme of events next week.

From Wednesday, July 17, the 2024 St Duthac Book and Arts Festival’s programme will be available in hardcopy and via its official website, as anticipation builds for the September event.

The festival, which runs from the September 10-15, is a celebration of authors, artists, musicians and history and is based in and around Tain.

With over 30 events in the programme the 2024 festival blends well-kent names from the world of crime fiction with new authors and throws in one or two who will test and intrigue.

Sport, nature, historical fact and fiction are all on offer to delight audiences.

Author SG MacLean makes her return to the festival to talk about her Jacobite thriller, The Bookseller of Inverness, which was Waterstones’ Scottish Book of the Year 2023.

Ms MacLean will also give a tempting insight into her forthcoming nineteenth century novel set on the Black Isle and mentions Tain.

Once again there will be heritage walks and talks across the area.

Milton hosts a prize winning Pro Loco art event, with an opportunity to create a piece of art in the open air in just a few hours.

The Nigg Mini Book Fair will return, hosted by the Nigg Friendship Group as does the ever-popular Pop-Up Bookshop, which offers a wide selection of new and pre-loved books and artwork by local artists.

Each year the festival offers free events to selected schools and in 2024 they are launching a schools art competition for secondary school students – with a prize of £100.

A selection of exciting events are also planned at the weekend, for children of all ages.

Tickets go live via Ticketsource and our website from 9am on July 30, 2024.
