‘Captivating’ new book unveils rich history of Warrington Town Hall

Graphic design students from Warrington & Vale Royal College have brought to life the history of the grand hall, first built in 1750, through a selection of detailed illustrations.

This project was commissioned by the ‘Friends of Warrington Town Hall’ and local historian Janice Hayes.

It captures the evolution of the Town Hall’s role while highlighting significant historical events and key figures associated with it.

Designed with educational purposes in mind, the illustrated book serves not only as a tribute to Warrington’s rich heritage but also as a dynamic resource for local schools.

Through colourful and detailed illustrations and narratives, the book aims to inspire young minds to connect with their town’s storied past.

The students were invited to Warrington Town Hall by Councillor Jean Flaherty and Janice Hayes, who both played pivotal roles in the creation of the book.

During their visit, the students were given a comprehensive tour of the printing facility, learning about the various printing processes, equipment, and machinery involved. They had the unique opportunity to see how their artwork was set up for print and were each given their own copy of the book.

Students had the opportunity to present their book to a range of Warrington’s school leaders, allowing them to fully celebrate their remarkable achievement.

The book has so far been received with great enthusiasm and excitement, with many people recognising the students’ talents, including Warrington Borough Council, who have decided to professionally print 4,000 copies.

The book is now officially on sale and will be available to purchase at the Town Hall and Warrington Museum for £5.

Cllr Jean Flaherty, deputy leader of Warrington Borough Council said: “This fantastic project not only underscores the students’ creative skills but also showcases the power of collaboration between the community and local educational institutions in preserving and celebrating Warrington’s heritage.

“I would like to express huge congratulations to Elliot Tapsfield, Matthew Berry, Alex Livesey, JJ Evans, Ajay Dixon and Alex Yu for their involvement in such a pivotal project.”
