D.H. Lawrence biographer to launch new book in Eastwood!

08/07/24 – Dr Andrew Harrison will be launching his new book The Life of the Author: D.H. Lawrence at the D.H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum later this month.

Dr Andrew Harrison is Director of the D.H. Lawrence Research Centre and Associate Professor in English Literature at the University of Nottingham.

The Life of the Author: D.H. Lawrence is a focused exploration of the whole of the author’s life and writing career. Combining biographical detail and close readings of works in different genres, the book illuminates the complexities of Lawrence’s writing through a careful, questioning approach to biographical sources and recent scholarship. Andrew Harrison provides original insights into Lawrence’s relationship to working-class experience, his anti-suffragist feminist views, his reaction to the Great War, his responses to racial and cultural difference, his attitudes towards sex, sexuality, and sexual identity, and much more.

Dr Andrew Harrison said, ‘I am delighted to be launching the book in the Birthplace Museum, which provides such a vivid and tangible insight into Lawrence’s early life and background.’

The book launch will take place at the D.H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum, 8a Victoria Street, Eastwood, NG16 3AW on Saturday 27 July, 2pm-3pm. This is a free event open to all and no bookings are required.
