The Bookseller – Rights – Catalyst clinches ‘raw’ anthology from Hussain Manawer

Catalyst will publish the anthology, I Wanted to Quit Too: Stories for the Heart and Soul, by Sunday Times bestselling author Hussain Manawer, featuring contributions from actors Courteney Cox and Jay Ellis.

Lauren Whelan, publisher at Catalyst and Yellow Kite, bought world rights direct from the author.  It will be published in hardback on 23rd May 2024, priced at £16.99.

Split into five parts – Health, Hustle, Help, Hope and Healing – and featuring exclusive poetry throughout from award-winning writer Manawer, this “groundbreaking anthology includes short stories and conversations from global household names and hometown heroes,” Catalyst said. Contributors include photographer Greg Williams, “Friends” actor Courteney Cox along with actors Hero Fiennes Tiffin and Jay Ellis, YouTuber KSI, rugby union player Maro Itoje and singer-songwriter Sinead Harnett among others.

Catalyst added: “The book is centred around powerful life lessons, with stories focusing on navigating difficult personal circumstances where contributors have weathered the toughest storms, but instead of giving up have moved forwards. It is a powerful celebration of human resilience and love and a catalyst for encouragement – for readers to create a better ecosystem for preserving their mental health and wellbeing.”

Whelan said: “As Hussain says in the book, these pages have been birthed from a place of heartache, frustration and loneliness – but as a collective they offer a battle tool to confront the demons of the dark together and comfort against the uncertainties of the future. His mission with I Wanted to Quit Too is one of hope and helping us to create the heart space to breed optimism, growth and compassion against the odds. It is so unique and powerful – I’m extremely proud we get to play a part on its path into the world.”

Manawer, who is based in London, said: “Blessed is a word I never thought I’d ever link to ‘quitting’ but after the journey this book has taken me on, all that’s changed. I’ve been so lucky to have travelled the world, meeting and interacting with people from all walks of life and one thing’s for sure – stories have the power to save and change lives. Raw conversations with the people in my life about wanting to give up has brought deep connections, home truths and love.

“Unbeknownst to me, true vulnerability led to this book taking shape. I sincerely hope this anthology brings you some form of hope, light and understanding – just as much as it did for me. And to all the contributors who participated so emotionally generously from the bottom of my heart: thank you.”

Yellow Kite published his début poetry collection, Life is Sad and Beautiful, in 2022, which was partly inspired by the death of his mother.

The Sunday Times bestselling writer is also a mental health advocate, producer and the youngest honorary fellow at King’s College London.
