Little House on the Prairie Short Story Contest to Be Held

Mountain Home, AR. – In Mountain Home, AR., the Baxter County Library will soon be holding a short story contest centered around a well-known piece of literature in the area: Little House on the Prairie.

Read below for excerpts from the Baxter County Library on this contest.

The contest is open to individuals residing in Baxter County, AR, or the surrounding area. Entrants are tasked with writing a short story based on a character from the Little House on the Prairie books or television series. The short stories should encompass a beginning, middle, and end.

If you’re looking for inspiration, consider these prompts:

  • Using a quote from a Little House on the Prairie book, create your own story from the quote, then describe what happens next.
  • Explore how one of the characters from the series has impacted your life.
  • Transport a character or scene from Little House on the Prairie into a modern setting and craft a story around it.

The top three winners in each age category will receive exciting rewards. They will be awarded a private meet and greet, providing an exclusive opportunity to interact with cast members from the Little House on the Prairie TV series at the Library on Friday, November 17. Additionally, each winner will receive a Little House on the Prairie Prize Pack with memorabilia and other items inspired by the series.

All short stories and contest applications must be received by the following address no later than October 31, 2023: Library Director Donald W. Reynolds Library Serving Baxter County 300 Library Hill, Mountain Home, AR 72653.

Applications are available in the Library and on our website at www.BaxLib.org/Little-House-Prairie-Short-Story-Contest

Cast members from the Little House on the Prairie TV series will be making special appearances open to the public on Saturday and Sunday, November 18 and 19 at Lodge Between the Lakes in Mountain Home, AR, including meet and greet opportunities as well as dinner or brunch with the cast.  For ticket information, visit https://www.eventbrite.com/e/lhotp-christmas-prairie-style-tickets-680955856297.
