New children's book tells story of Josef Newgarden's Indy 500 win

You’re never too young to be an IndyCar fan.

Josef Newgarden announced on X/Twitter this week that a children’s book about his 2023 Indy 500 win is available for preorder. He co-created the book with his wife, Ashley Newgarden, and Red Racer Books creator Andy Amendola.

“I’ve been wanting to write a children’s book focused on the values of hard work and dedication,” his X post reads, “and there’s nothing that requires that more than the Indy 500.”

A description of the book on the publisher‘s site reads: “This beautifully crafted hardcover book captures the true story of Josef Newgarden, a young racer with a colossal dream: to conquer the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway and win the INDY 500.”

It’s not the first children’s book about Josef Newgarden

Author Chris Workman and race car driver Josef Newgarden partnered in 2016 on a children’s book titled “Josef, The Indy Car Driver.” According to its Amazon description, the book “mixes Indy car racing education with entertaining on-track action that is sure to please budding race fans and their parents.”

A note from Workman says the duo hope the book “inspires and empowers (kids) to chase after their goals, whatever they may be.”

The hardcover book is available for preorder from Red Racer Books.

You can purchase “Josef, the Indy Car Driver,” on Amazon or other online retailers; or check with local bookstores. It’s also available to check out from the Indianapolis Public Library, along with Workman’s 2017 book, “The Spectacle: Celebrating the History of the Indianapolis 500.”
