Two area youth are among 10 finalists in the second annual Books 4 Kids Write Across America Contest.
Trinity Lutheran School fourth-grader Rylan Cooper of Aberdeen and Webster Area School ninth-grader Breanna Gregerson are both in the running for a $250 cash prize and a publishing contract.
The Books 4 Kids program, which is based in Hayti, includes an author reading at the school and a book fair at which every student receives a book.
Books 4 Kids Executive Director Pam Wilson said this year 54 students from South Dakota and Minnesota submitted entries.
Wilson said the winning entry will go through the editing and publishing process, and the book will become part of the Books 4 Kids collection. The student-author will also be asked to participate in Books 4 Kids programs in classrooms with a Skype presentation.
She said book submissions from adults are welcome at any time. They can be sent to books4kids@publishps.com.
