Search for short stories is a write good way to celebrate local talents

A new project aims to showcase the creative writing talents of the East Dunbartonshire autistic community.writing

As part of World Autism Acceptance Week (28 March-3 April), the Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) has launched a new literary initiative. Local Area Co-ordinators are on the look-out for short story submissions (maximum length, 600 words) on the theme of ‘reflections’. Stories will be compiled and printed in a booklet in September.

It’s part of a line-up of exciting events throughout the year as part of the 2022 Festival of Celebration – showcasing the artistic achievements of autistic people and individuals with learning disabilities and mental health issues locally, as well as the organisations that support them.

Since the 2021 festival was postponed due to the pandemic, the Local Area Co-ordinators have been working hard to create a programme of events throughout 2022.

The aim is that every two months a new creative artform will be explored or shared.

For more information about the creative writing project, or to send in submissions, please contact the Local Area Co-ordinators directly by calling 0300 123 4510 or email George Burt, Ashleigh Grant-Ng or Hannah Murray.

Caroline Sinclair, Interim Chief Officer of East Dunbartonshire HSCP, said, “This is a great new project which aims to highlight the writing skills of the local autistic community.

“The theme is ‘reflections’, which is very apt as I’m sure the submissions will reflect the wonderful range of talents and experiences locally.”

Please send in short stories by 30 September 2022 to be considered.
