Battle of Crete poetry book presentation at GCM

The Greek Community of Melbourne, together with The Cretan Brotherhood of Melbourne and the Greek Australian Cultural League are hosting a presentation of the book ‘INTO THE MOONLIT VILLAGE – The Battle of Crete ‘.

The bilingual book features poems by Poli Tataraki Sansey and linocuts by artist Michael Winters.

Both the poet and artist will speak about their work and guests will hear selected poems and view projections of linocuts, telling stories of Cretans and ANZACs grappling side by side in Crete during the Nazi invasion.

Australian soldiers came to age in an ancient land, experiencing the horrors of war while also encountering the legendary hospitality of Cretans prepared to give their lives for freedom.

The presentation will be launched by poet and lawyer Dean Kalimniou and will conclude with live Cretan music and refreshments.

When: Sunday June 9, 2.30pm

Where: Greek Community of Melbourne, 168 Lonsdale Street
