A free writer’s workshop is being offered at the Red Bluff Art Gallery, 601 Walnut St., at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22.
Chico author and frequent envoy of the California Arts Council, Susan Wooldridge, will conduct the workshop, which is open to the public.
“We were fortunate to get a grant from the James Irvine Foundation, through Writers & Poets, Inc.” says Ana Nelson, co-director of the gallery, “So, we are able to offer this as a free workshop, open to everyone.”
Susan Wooldridge is well-known for her highly creative approach to writing workshops. She is the author of the popular book, Poemcrazy. Susan will provide instruction and exercises in developing a more creative approach to writing. She will also reveal her techniques for avoiding “writer’s block” during the workshop. The workshop is recommended for writers of all ages and all genres.
On the Friday night before the workshop, Susan will be reading from her book Poemcrazy. The reading will begin at 7 p.m. and she will have a special guest author with her on Friday and at the writing workshop on Saturday, Djaffar Chetouane, from Algeria.
Djaffar is the author of Donkey Heart, Monkey Mind. His book is autobiographical in nature and follows his adventures across North Africa and Europe.
He begins the book as a political prisoner and eventually becomes a pick-pocket in Europe.
Along the way, he is jailed in several countries, for political crimes as well as petty theft.
His reading begins at 7 p.m. and he will be available to answer questions and discuss his book.
Both the Friday night book reading and signing, as well as the workshop on Saturday are open to the public and there is no cost. Refreshments will be served.
