The Bookseller – News – Brixton House announces series of literary events

Brixton House has announced a series of literary events throughout March, ranging from book launches to discussions on creativity, identity and representation.

Since opening in 2020, Brixton House has presented work and curated conversations “that tell inspiring stories from diverse communities to empower a new generation of makers, artists, writers and audiences”. Brixton House has previously programmed literary events, such as An Evening with Caster Semenya, in partnership with Dark Matter, Round Table Books and #Merky Books.

On 21st March Julie Adenuga will be in conversation with Kevin Morosky, Jamelia and Africa Daley-Clarke to discuss Morosky’s new book Black Women Always: Conversations on Life, Culture and Creativity (Pavilion Books).

Earlier this month the venue hosted Jason Okundaye discussing his new book, Revolutionary Acts (Faber) alongside poet Caleb Femi, and a book club hosted by book influencer John-Paul Kunrunmi on the representation of Black men in books. Journalist, historian and public speaker Paula Akpan also chaired a panel discussion with writers Dean Atta, Kuchenga Shenjé and Michael Donkor to speak about their experiences, poetry, YA, mystery and literary fiction.

Ruth Hawkins, head of programming and producing, said: “The literary strand at Brixton House has grown over the past few months as we are continually responding to our audience’s interests, and there is an appetite for events that speak to the often shared experiences and important conversations provoked by the authors. Our partnerships with Fane, Dark Matter Marketing, Penguin, #Merky Books and Round Table Books have enabled us to bring in a range of authors throughout the year and we are looking forward to strengthening these partnerships in the literary community.”
