Fans of The Hunger Games franchise have been left shaken to their very cores as it’s been announced that a new film and a new book are on the cards!
The film franchise was a huge deal for readers who loved the dystopian series that was brought to life on screen in 2012 in a four-part series starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Woody Harrelson.
It followed a dystopian world called Panem and an annual TV show that forces children to participate in a televised competition where they have to kill each other.
The young adult book series and films were equally popular and the prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, was published as a book in 2020 and released in 2023 as a film.
Following its success, it has been announced today by Scholastic that Sunrise on the Reaping, the fifth book in the dystopian series, will be published on March 18 2025.
Additionally, it was announced on the same day that a film based on this novel will be released in cinemas a year after on November 20, 2026.
Fans are understandably ecstatic and have taken to social media to express their uncontrollable excitement.

Croissantom commented: ‘A new Hunger Games book. a possible new prequel film. thank you Mother Suzanne Collins.’
Hwisblyth said: ‘Another Hunger Games book oh I’m so seated.’

Sunrise on the Reaping is set 40 years after the events of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and 24 years before the events of the first Hunger Games book during the 74th Hunger Games.
The book will follow Haymitch’s time in the arena and the horrific events he endured to become the winner of that year’s Hunger Games.
Suzanne Collins said in a statement that she was inspired by a philosopher when writing this book.
‘With Sunrise on the Reaping, I was inspired by David Hume’s idea of implicit submission and, in his words, ‘the easiness with which the many are governed by the few’,’ she said.
‘The story also lent itself to a deeper dive into the use of propaganda and the power of those who control the narrative. The question “Real or not real?” seems more pressing to me every day,’ she said quoting her book.
