Anthologies Assembly and final call for PhD admissions

Anthologies Assembly: July 22–26, Exhibition Research Lab, Liverpool John Moores University.

Please join us for our first TT/LJMU partnership PhD graduate exhibitions, performances, panels, screenings, and talks including:

Danses Vulnérables: Bodies Telling Stories In Their Fact Of Presence with exhibition works by: Karen Ami, Gina Dominique, Marie-France Forcier, Anne-Sophie Lorange, Juliette M. Ludeker, Nancy Messegee, Carrie E. Neal, Eve Provost Chartrand, and Erin Wilkenson. Drawing inspiration from Raimund Hoghe’s intimate knowledge of the innate storytelling ability of creative bodies, nine PhD candidates invite the audience to immerse themselves in shared moments of presence, where language, movement, image, collaboration, and sound unfold in harmony and where artworks transcend mere visual representation to challenge conventional narratives.

Come and witness how works that go beyond the limitations of sight alone mark the existence of the vernacular in untethered, unsettling ways and how textiles act as vessels, preserving memories and reflections. Experience how nostalgia intertwines with the liberating power of language, guiding us back to the landscapes of our past. Reflect on prevailing gender and colour narratives, delving into the profound impact of colour theories on artistic expression and identity.

Through the art of mending, contemplate pieces that shed light on how survivors can redefine and empower wounded maternal lineages and witness how co-minglings with the non-human can disrupt normative perceptions of affliction, gender, and identity to foster inclusivity and authenticity. Engage with mundane tasks and vessels elevated to sacred experiences through mindful ritual; connect with space, time, history, and memories through the felt body, embracing uncertainty as an integral facet of the human experience at the intersection of trauma studies, somatic practices, and contemporary choreography. The artists invite you to embark on this journey through embodied narratives, where art serves as a conduit for delving into the intricacies of our shared humanity.

About Transart
Our Creative Research PhD is for everyone with a specific project or question whose practice embodies or essentially drives their research. Your tenure in the program will transform your practice and your awareness of what it can do, significantly contributing to knowledge and practice in your field and augmenting your credentials for academic positions, grants and inclusion in research projects.

Your practice will entwine making, writing and reflection to become rigorous and original creative research—in short, your practice IS the research. Your research will culminate in submitting an integrated thesis, which may include a presentation, exhibition, publication, performance, screening, workshop and other forms of dissemination.

Our praxis-centered programs revolve around local and virtual residencies including symposia, fora, topical workshops, research seminars, exhibitions, screenings, cultural excursions, listening sessions and other events to enrich your praxis. Past residencies have included Mexico City, Liverpool and New York, Berlin and Nairobi. Upcoming residencies at Figure 8 studio in Brooklyn and with Weaving Water in Queensland, Australia.

Final PhD Explorer course
