Gadag: Pranati Gadad, studying in class 9, released an anthology of poems last year. The collection has now won a state-level award in children’s literature. Pranati told TOI that her anthology had won an award from Vidyachetana Prakashana of Sindagi, Vijayapura, along with ace writers for children such as Lalita Hosapyati, Jambunath Kacnhyani and MM Sangannavar. “I started composing poems when I was studying in class 2. My father Rajendra Gadad and elder brother Pramathesh, who are also poets, encouraged me to continue writing rhymes,” she added. She has also recited her poems at prestigious literary events like Mysuru Dasara poetry session, Akhila Bharata Makkala Sahitya Sammelana and Akhila Karnataka 9th Makkala Sahitya Sammelana. She has been honoured as an outstanding talent by the woman and child development department. She has attracted the attention of veteran children’s writers with her poems. In his preface, Rajyotsava awardee writer Pa Gu Siddapur has written that he has read the anthology twice. “Gadad has expressed her feelings through poetry very effectively. She even motivates elders to think about her imagination,” he added.Veteran novelist Kum Veerabhadrappa commented that Gadad’s selection of subjects for her poetry is unique and excellent. “She mixes it with her way of expression. Her poems have melody, intimacy and celebration,” he observes. Sahitya Akademi awardee Prof TS Nagaraj Shetty notes that though Gadad has penned hundreds of poems, she has compiled only 70 of them in the anthology. “She wishes to serve the nation by expressing tribute to great souls like Kittur Channamma,” he says.Basu Bevinagidad, programme head of All India Radio, Dharwad, says Gadad’s imagination isricher than most children of her age. Padmashree awardee Doddarangegowda says Gadad’s rhymes and alliterations attract both children and elders. “The anthology is one of the best contributions to contemporary Kannada children’s literature,” he adds.
