The Malayalam anthology movie, starring stalwarts of Indian cinema like Mammootty, Mohanlal, Kamal Haasan, and ace actors like Fahadh Faasil, Parvathy, and more, has been in the wings for a long time. It was first conceived back in 2021 amid the pandemic when anthologies had become the flavor of the season. However, the buzz around it soon faded from pop culture, and the film was not being spoken about enough to remain in the spotlight. It turns out the movie has now found a new home in the streaming world and is all set to make its way to Zee5. But fans have been eagerly waiting to decode the release date. It turns out we now have it.

In 2022, OTTplay had an exclusive conversation with Mahesh Narayanan, Fahadh Faasil’s longtime collaborator and the director of his short Sherlock in Manorathangal. The filmmaker spoke about the short film and called it a tribute to M.T. Vasudevan Nair. “It’s a tribute to the writer from filmmakers as well as cinema lovers, who grew up watching M.T. Vasudevan Nair sir’s films. His scripts are all available right now as they are published works. As filmmakers, we have this tendency to go back and read them as references,” said the filmmaker.

Mahesh Narayanan added, “They are all segments for which M.T. sir has written the screenplay. I am doing a short film called Sherlock and we had a good sitting, and I am really glad I could do something with a legendary writer like him. It will drop on the OTT platform really soon.”

And it finally is! Manorathangal drops on Zee5 on August 15, 2024. Stay tuned to OTTplay for more information on this and everything else from the world of streaming and films.
