Jerusalem Book Forum Extends Birger Fellowship Deadline

With the next Jerusalem International Book Forum scheduled for May, the associated Zev Birger Fellowship for editors, literary agent, and scouts has extended its deadline.

New Deadline: October 31

As Publishing Perspectives readers will remember, the Zev Birger Editorial Fellowship program runs parallel to the Jerusalem International Book Forum,

Its next iteration is expected to run May 15 to 18, as the forum programs stage discussion, debate, and informal networking events, starting with the awarding of the Jerusalem Prize.

And the forum is extending the application period for the next group of participants in the Zev Birger Editorial Fellowship program to October 31.

In a prepared statement, the forum’s director, Yoel Makov, is quoted, saying, “Working toward the May 2022 edition, we’re filled with hope that by then it will be permissible and safe to hold a physical Jerusalem International Book Forum.

Yoel Makov

“Especially at a time like this, after we’ve been distanced from one another and long to reunite, we’re passionate about the notion of introducing yet another group of remarkable people to the fellowship, so that new ties can be formed and new opportunities explored.”

The Zev Birger Editorial Fellowship program, named after its founder and sponsored by the Georg von Holtzbrinck Publishing Group since its inception in 1985, is a professional week-long seminar which focuses on significant issues of interest to the international publishing community.

As part of the Jerusalem International Book Forum (previously the Jerusalem International Book Fair), the fellowship program takes place biennially. During each edition of the forum, about 35 editors, literary agents, and literary scouts are carefully selected by committees of experienced publishing professionals to participate in the fellowship program.

To date, nearly 600 alumni from 40 countries representing a wide range of companies and professional roles have participated in the program. Many alumni now occupy senior positions, and the JIBF remains a focal point for their professional relationships and friendships.

The return of the fellowship’s alumni to Jerusalem is supported by Penguin Random House.

The next Zev Birger Editorial Fellowship program will take place between May 13 and 19, 2022. The online application form is available on the forum’s site.
