The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires adaptation in the works at HBO

American author Grady Hendrix’s New York Times bestseller The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires is in the process of being turned into a television series for HBO. More on this upcoming show below.

We first learned of this television series adaptation back in February 2020 when it was announced that producer Patrick Moran and his PKM Productions had nabbed rights to the 2020 horror novel after a competitive bidding war. The project was reported to be in development at Amazon at the time. However, this has since changed with Moran exiting the project and HBO taking over duties from Amazon.

Described as a comedy series, Hendrix collaborates with Danny McBride and Edi Patterson to write the scripts. The trio also executive produces along with Brandon James and Quirk Books, the publisher behind the novel. At the moment, it’s unknown how many episodes there will be in the series and who will be directing them. No actors have been cast yet, either. Once this juicy information is revealed, we’ll be sure to let you know right away.

The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires takes place in Charleston and revolves around Patricia, a lonely housewife and member of a women’s true crime book club. Her life takes a dark turn when she befriends a mysterious and handsome newcomer to the town. This charming stranger turns out to be a vampire who preys on the town’s children. Now, Patricia must enlist the help of her fellow book club members to confront and put a stop to the bloodthirsty vamp.

If you would like to purchase the horror novel, you can do so through Amazon as a paperback ($11.01 before taxes), hardcover ($12.80 before taxes), or eBook ($9.99 before taxes).

Unfortunately, this is all we know about the The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires television series adaptation as of right now. As more information comes out, we’ll come back and share everything we found. So, stay tuned to 1428 Elm!
