Interview With The Vampire Season 2 Book Accuracy Explained By EP

Summary

  • Interview with the Vampire
season 2 will faithfully follow the second half of Anne Rice’s original novel, says executive producer Mark Johnson.
  • The upcoming season will explore the romantic relationship between Louis and Armand and delve into their motivations for being interviewed.
  • New characters and plot threads will add complexity to the story, suggesting a more intricate narrative in season 2 compared to season 1.

Interview with the Vampire executive producer Mark Johnson has opened up about how accurate season 2 will be to the original novel. The series is based on a book of the same name by Anne Rice, chronicling vampire Louis de Pointe du Luc’s life as told to journalist Daniel Molloy. Season 1 adapted the first half of the novel, setting the stage for Louis’ story surrounding how he met another vampire, Armand.

Speaking at the TCA Press Tour, Johnson revealed how Interview with the Vampire season 2 will maintain faithfulness to Rice’s original novel. The executive producer revealed parts of the second half were almost included in season 1, but they refrained to ensure the story would be told as best it could. Check out what Johnson had to say below:

This is the second part of the book, and we follow it somewhat religiously with the, I think, same interpretation that Rolin Jones took with the first section. But the book spoke to us and really dictated where we went with it. At one point, when we did the first season, we actually toyed with going to Europe where most of this takes place, but we held off, so this is really the second half of the book.

What To Expect From Interview With The Vampire Season 2

A composite image of characters from Interview with the Vampire

Interview with the Vampire season 1 ended by introducing the vampire Armand, revealing that Rashid, Louis’ supposed servant, is the 514-year-old being. He is also the one who saved Daniel in 1971 when he first interviewed Louis. Because of this revelation, it appears season 2 will be revealing how the vampire duo fell in love, and the deeper meaning behind their decision to be interviewed.

In addition to this twist, the next season will also introduce Santiago, leader of the Theatre de Vampires in Europe who harbors suspicions about Louis, and Madeleine, a woman who grows close to Claudia. There will also be a major casting change for the younger vampire, who will be portrayed by Delainey Hayles, replacing Bailey Bass in the role. With the introduction of new characters and plot threads, it seems season 2 will have a much more complex story than season 1.

It’s unclear if Interview with the Vampire season 2 will be the end of the series, or if there are plans for the show to continue adapting novels in Rice’s Vampire Chronicles series. Since the show is part of AMC’s Immortal Universe alongside Mayfair Witches and other planned series, it could continue by keeping its name while adapting future books. For now, though, it appears the series will be maintaining a faithful adaptation for the rest of the first book, adding more layers to its vampire story.
