James Bond Character Q Getting Spinoff In New Book Series

A much beloved character in the British spy series, James Bond 007, Q is finally getting the spotlight in a novel series penned by author Vaseem Khan, titled ‘The Q Mysteries’.

The first installment of the series ‘Quantum of Menace’ is set to release in Autumn 2025 according to CinemaBlend.

In the plot details dropped on the Bond creator, Ian Fleming Publications website, Q (nee Major Boothroyd is unexpectedly ousted from his role with the British Intelligence developing technologies for M16’s 00 agents, he finds himself back in his sleepy hometown of Wickstone-on-Water.

His childhood friend, renowned quantum computer scientist Peter Napier has died in mysterious circumstances, leaving behind a cryptic note. The police seem disinterested, but Q feels compelled to investigate and soon discovers that Napier’s ground-breaking work may have attracted sinister forces.

Can Q decode the truth behind Napier’s death even as danger closes in.

It is an adventure worthy of 007 himself, but on more of a ‘Hercule Poirot’ (Agatha Christie’s mystery protagonist) scale. While 007 fans are wondering whose incarnation of Q will be chosen, the great Desmond Llewelyn’s or Ben Whishaw’s modern ones, the author Vaseem Khan’s response should keep them at ease.

“I can’t think of anything more exhilarating as a writer than bringing to life such an iconic character, one that I have adored since childhood. I was the kid who watched Bond films just to see what new gadgets Q would come up with for 007.

“To now create Q in a series of contemporary mystery novels, bringing together everything I love about the genre, is the coolest assignment I could hope for. I cannot wait to share my Q with readers. Move over Bond. Q is coming.

Although the world of James Bond appears to be in a limbo, especially when 2024 was the earliest point that Bond 26 was set to film, literarily inclined Bond fans, can scratch that itch a little sooner with Kim Sherwood’s Double-0 trilogy instalment, ‘A Spy Like Me’ or Nicholas Shakespeare’s biography ‘Ian Fleming: The Complete Man’.
