Taylor Swift’s Literary Inspirations Are Explored in New Book (Exclusive)

Calling all bookworm Swifties — a new book about Taylor Swift‘s literary influences is dropping soon.

PEOPLE can exclusively reveal the cover of Taylor Swift By the Book: The Literature Behind the Lyrics, from Fairy Tales to Tortured Poets, written by Rachel Feder and Tiffany Tatreau. The book is forthcoming from Quirk Books this November — and is the perfect read for anyone who’s ever wanted to dig deeper into the pop star’s bookish inspirations.

The illustrated book delves into Swift’s discography, era by era, and the literary influences within her lyrics. From her 2008 self-titled debut album to her most recent studio release — 2024’s The Tortured Poets Department — the authors pulled from their own enthusiasm for Swift, and books, to write their own.

“We love Taylor Swift and her lyrics. We love literature and literary history,” Feder and Tatreau tell PEOPLE. “Once we pulled the invisible string, there was no stopping it — reading Swift’s lyrics the way we might read Shakespeare or The Great Gatsby led to so many thrilling discoveries and fascinating connections that we just can’t wait to share.”

Swift’s literary references encapsulate a range of genres and writers, from Homer’s The Iliad to the references to poets and writers Dylan Thomas and Patti Smith in TTPD. Feder and Tatreau say that this is a book that’s sure to please a range of fans.

“This book is for the Taylor Swift fans, for the literature lovers, and for the folks who land somewhere in that magical Venn diagram (or love someone who does!),” the authors add.

“If deeply and sincerely geeking out about the literary Easter eggs and jewels in Swift’s lyrics sounds like your idea of a good time, or if you believe girlhood and pop culture deserve the same attention as the literary canon, we think you’ll love it!”
