A new historical fiction novel by veteran New York Times bestselling author and Forbes 50 Over 50 honoree Kristin Hannah has become the top-selling author of 2024, according to Circana Bookscan data. Despite a list dominated by fantasy, thrillers, and romance, Hannah’s latest work stands out as a bestseller.

Kristin Hannah’s historical fiction novel ‘The Women,’ which tells the story of military nurses serving in Vietnam, has become the bestselling book of 2024 so far, with 829,115 print copies sold, according to Circana data. This surpasses the combined sales of the next two bestsellers. Bill Gates, the billionaire co-founder of Microsoft, included ‘The Women’ as the only fiction book on his summer reading list, praising it as a “beautifully written tribute to a group of veterans who deserve more appreciation for the incredible sacrifices they made.”

In second place is ‘House of Flame and Shadow,’ the third book in Sarah J. Maas’s fantasy Crescent City series, with 536,346 print sales. ‘Funny Story,’ a romance by Emily Henry, follows in third place with 300,289 print copies sold.

Rounding out the top five are ‘The Teacher,’ a thriller by bestselling author Freida McFadden, with 289,949 print copies sold, and ‘Bride,’ a paranormal romance by Ali Hazelwood, with 233,955 print copies sold.

This list of 2024’s bestselling releases includes adult U.S. print sales from December 31, 2023, through June 8, 2024, as tracked by Circana BookScan.
