Ho Chi Minh City Hosts Enriching Summer Book Fair for Young Readers

Ho Chi Minh City is set to burst with literary excitement as it hosts the fifth edition of the Children’s Book Festival from May 31 to June 9, 2024. The bustling Nguyen Van Binh Book Street, along with parts of Hai Ba Trung sidewalk, transforms into a paradise for young bibliophiles, ensuring a healthy entertainment alternative for summer.

This year’s theme “Delightful Summer with Good Books” welcomes participation from 24 publishing houses. The event will prominently feature an annual summer release of children’s books including illustrated Vietnamese history and English-language film festival entries. More than 20,000 book titles, encompassing a rich diversity of genres and content, including paper books, e-books, and audiobooks, will be showcased, catering to young readers and their guardians.

A key highlight of the happening is the “Befriending Books” forum scheduled for 9 AM on June 6. The forum will host the City’s Reading Culture Ambassador along with writers, journalists, educators, psychological experts, youthful authors, and inspiring figures. Interactive discussions are anticipated to offer multidimensional perspectives and valuable insights into developing skills and effectively integrating learning and entertainment technologies during the digital age’s transformative phase.

In a novel initiative, the 2024 festival introduces a “Technology Bus,” offering access to virtual reality experiences and advanced global science and technology insights. Moreover, artificial intelligence steps into the festival’s fold, debuting a service robot designed to assist and interact with visitors, thereby igniting a passion for science and technology among the youth.

Within the 10-day span, almost 60 activities will be presented, a 50% increase from the previous year. The festival will feature interactive author-reader sessions, vibrant artistic performances specially curated for children, and creative thinking and interactive activities, such as book-for-plant exchanges, battery-for-book initiatives, drawing, and sculpture painting.

Furthermore, the Children’s Book Award Council and Regulations will be announced on the opening day at 4 PM, representing an enhancement to the city’s literary ecosystem. This award aims to encourage and honor creators and contributors to the publishing field, while also scouting for new writing talents.
