I inherited storytelling from my grandfather: Alia Bhatt launches her debut children’s book ‘Ed Finds A Home’

Actor and entrepreneur Alia Bhatt has now also become a storyteller! Alia Bhatt’s debut book ‘Ed Finds a Home’ is published by Penguin, and it is the first book in the picture book series ‘The Adventures of Ed-a-Mamma’ that aims at telling stories about caring for the environment. The book was launched by Alia on June 17, 2024, at StoryVerse, a children’s lit fest at Jio World Drive in Mumbai.

‘Ed Finds A Home’ is a collaborative effort between Alia Bhatt, Vivek Kamath, and Shabnam Minwalla, while the book is illustrated by Tanvi Bhat. The book introduces young readers to a little girl who embarks on an adventure to rescue an abandoned dog.

Talking about her first children’s book, Alia Bhatt said at the book launch, “Storytelling has always been a part of me, a gift inherited from my grandfather and I’m so happy that I could introduce the world to this book on his birthday. The little girl and her dog are the heart and soul of Ed-a-Mamma, and their adventures to save the planet aim to encourage children to spend more time outdoors, connect with nature, and develop a love for nature and a love for reading. Our planet is facing numerous environmental challenges, and it’s important to raise awareness among the next generation. We will always take care of what we love, and I hope these simple stories will spark joy and positive action among all age groups.”

It is interesting to note that apart from teaching children the importance of taking care of the environment, the book is also printed on sustainable paper.

Meanwhile, Sohini Mitra, Publisher- Children’s Division, Penguin Random House India also spoke about Alia Bhatt turning an author. She said in a statement, ‘At Penguin, our mission extends beyond fostering a generation of avid readers; we aspire to nurture environmentally conscious young minds. Alia Bhatt’s remarkable venture into children’s literature brings a star power that
is both captivating and influential. Her vision for Ed-a-Mamma resonates deeply with our commitment to being a responsible publisher. Together, we aim to ignite a passion for storytelling and environmental stewardship, ensuring our young readers grow up with a love for books and a dedication to protecting our planet.”

Alia Bhatt was also accompanied by her mother and actress Soni Razdan and sister Shaheen Bhatt at the launch event. Alia’s sister, Shaheen Bhatt is also an author.
