Is Presumed Innocent Series Based on a True Story or Book?

The Apple TV+ series, Presumed Innocent, is set in a world where first impressions can be misleading and the path to truth is fraught with ambiguity. Starring Jake Gyllenhaal, this legal drama has garnered significant attention since its premiere. Given the show’s intricate plot and exploration of the legal system, a pertinent question has arisen: is Presumed Innocent based on a true story or a work of fiction, such as a novel or book series?

Let’s find out whether the show is based on a book or real-life events.

Is Apple TV’s Presumed Innocent based on a true story or a novel?

Presumed Innocent is an adaptation of a novel and not a story based on actual events.

Presumed Innocent is not a factual account but rather an adaptation of Scott Turow’s acclaimed book of the same name. Originally published in 1987, Turow’s book captivated readers with its complex story and characters. It was adapted into a movie in 1990, with Harrison Ford portraying the lead character.

As per the Los Angeles Review of Books, Scott Turow’s experience as an attorney gave him a deep understanding of courtroom dynamics. Turow remembered the inspiration behind Presumed Innocent while evaluating a young prosecutor in the early 1980s. The intense drama and suspense observed in those proceedings sparked the idea for the book.

The new legal thriller miniseries on Apple TV+ features Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead role. The show delves deep into the Chicago justice system as a respected prosecutor finds himself at the center of a murder investigation. Complicating the case is a hidden affair between the prosecutor and the victim. This raises suspicion and threatens his career and personal life.

Apart from Gyllenhaal, the cast also features Ruth Negga, Elizabeth Marvel, Renate Reinsve, Lily Rabe, and Matthew Alan, among many others.
