MIFFLINTOWN – What better way to beat the heat than to take John Grisham or Danielle Steel to a shady spot or under an umbrella at the pool.
Just in time for that summer getaway, the Friends of the Juniata County Library are holding a three-day summer book sale at the Juniata County Library, starting Tuesday, June 25.
Held during regular library hours, reading enthusiasts are encouraged to load up with their favorite vacation reads for $7 a bag.
“The Friends’ shelves are crammed with all your favorite authors and current releases,” said Virginia Haubert, Friends of Juniata County Library publicity chair. The library is located at 498 Jefferson St., Mifflintown.
“James Patterson, David Baldacci, Sandra Brown, John Grisham, Colleen Hoover, Elin Hilderbrand, Nora Roberts and Danielle Steel are just a few of the popular mystery and romance authors available,” she added.

Just in time for summer, there are plenty of adult non-fiction books on grilling, gardening, outdoor projects and do-it-yourself how-to books. Additionally, the Friends’ magazine section has many craft, painting and needlework ideas and instructions.
Teens and tweens, who might be bored since school is out for the summer, can peruse the young adult nonfiction section for camping, science experiments, craft projects, dinosaurs, nature and sports books.
Of course, the Friends also have young adult fiction in many genres: adventure, vampires, mystery, fantasy, science fiction and teen romance.
And for those rainy days, there’s a wide variety of jigsaw puzzles. “The Friends have added to their supply of puzzles since their last sale,” Haubert said.
Puzzles – with 300, 500 or 1,000 pieces – can be purchased for $3 each. Rainy days are also good for watching movies, and DVDs and CDs can be included in the $7 bags.
“The Friends of the Library are grateful for the community support they have had for their book sales, and we hope this sale will be one of the biggest yet,” Haubert added.
All proceeds benefit the Juniata County Library.
The library is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday.
