Dr Sevani Singaram, a distinguished diagnostic radiographer and author, has just published her second book: ‘The Disappearance of Amy Nel- a South African Mystery’. Following the success of her first book: ‘Short Stories and Poetry by a South African’, Dr Singaram delves into the genre of psychological thrillers with this latest release.
Dr Singaram, a PhD graduate with an MBA degree, works at a private medical clinic in Durban. Her passion for reading, kindled at a young age, has significantly influenced her writing.
“My favourite authors are Manju Kapur, Chitra Banerjee, Ronnie Govender, and Rayda Jacobs,” she shared. Inspired by captivating works such as Rayda Jacobs’ ‘Confessions of a Gambler’ and the psychological thrillers, ‘Gone Girl’ and ‘A Simple Favour’, Dr Singaram was motivated to contribute to the genre with a local twist. ‘The Disappearance of Amy Nel’ tackles themes such as addiction, mental health, and covetousness, drawing from Dr Singaram’s deep interest in psychology, a field she explored extensively during her PhD studies. “The complexities of the human mind have always intrigued me,” she explained.
