New ‘Hunger Games’ Novel From Suzanne Collins Coming In 2025

Hunger Games

Lionsgate

A new Hunger Games novel by author Suzanne Collins will be published on March 18, 2025, publisher Scholastic announced today. Sunrise on the Reaping will be the fifth in the dystopian book series.

The new book will be set 24 years before the original Hunger Games novel and 40 years after the most recent installment The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

While Collins pointed to such influences as Greek mythology and Roman gladiators for her earlier entries in the series, she said the new one owes a nod to Enlightenment philosopher David Hume.

“With Sunrise on the Reaping, I was inspired by David Hume’s idea of implicit submission and, in his words, ‘the easiness with which the many are governed by the few.’ The story also lent itself to a deeper dive into the use of propaganda and the power of those who control the narrative. The question ‘Real or not real?’ seems more pressing to me every day.”

The novel’s action picks up with the reaping of the Fiftieth Hunger Games.

The film adaptation of Songbirds and Snakes starring Tom Blyth and Rachel Zegler was released last year. Though no news on film rights for the upcoming book has been announced, all four of the previous books in the series have been adapted into movies for the Lionsgate franchise.
