Poetry collections still resonate  – Have a Go News

Emily Bridget Taylor is a Perth-based poet and spoken word performer devoted to bringing poetry off the page.

Combining the mediums of performance, music, visual art and the printed word, Emily takes her readers by the hand into a gothic, poetic universe.

Since 2021, she’s built an audience of thousands across Instagram, TikTok, and Threads, with her poetry receiving more than 300k views on TikTok alone.

In 2022, she won a position in the Four Centres Emerging Writers Program through Fremantle Press and KSP Writers’ Centre to develop a poetry manuscript.

In 2022, she released an illustrated poetry zine that sold out internationally.

The same year, Emily developed and performed Remedy, a spoken word show, at Wild Village Festival.

This year, Remedy, her debut poetry book, represented by Bijou Press will be released on her 22/06/24.

This collection of poetry tells the story of a great love gone terribly wrong. Pitched as Jane Eyre meets The Tortured Poets Department, Remedy blends yesteryear gothic romance with modern-day sharpness to memorialise a tale of heartbreak and resurrection.

Maria Papas, Hungerford Award-winning novelist said: “Remedy is a powerful collection that channels strength, love and hope.

“The poems within this volume remind us what it is to be human and vulnerable. “They highlight that we are emphatically bigger than the moments we experience, and that our strength arises out of knowing who we are, where we have come from, and from trusting that one of the greatest loves of all is the love we have for ourselves”.

WA Premier’s Book Awards Winner – ‘Book of the Year’ (2023) Scott-Patrick Mitchell, said: “Emily Bridget Taylor has crafted a collection of poems that spark and fall apart as they explore love, break-ups, the gothic noir and mist-covered moors.

“Here, love is presented as luminous, messy, gut wrenching and as devastatingly beautiful.

“At all times there is a tinge of darkness while, in the short prose poems, Taylor’s voice soars to new heights. Remedy is soul-food, scars and all.”

Remedy releases 22/6/24 and is available at available at: https://www.emilybridgettaylor.com/books/p/remedy-the-full-collection
