Three new jury members for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award

The Swedish Arts Council Board has decided to appoint Maria Fröhlich, Pernilla Leviner and Johan Rundberg as new members of the jury for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award. They will take up the positions on July 1st.

Maria Fröhlich is an illustrator, author, and comic book artist. She has written and illustrated the Ruby books, with the first part, Ruby & Lion, published in 2021. She made her U.S. debut with a comic adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s short story The Man Who Forgot Ray Bradbury in 2013. Maria is a member of the Swedish Academy for Children’s Books and a professional representative on the subject council at Konstfack, Sweden’s largest university for arts, crafts and design, where she is also a guest lecturer.

Pernilla Leviner is a Professor of Public Law with a focus on children’s rights and social law at the Faculty of Law at Stockholm University. Her research is focused on children’s rights and living conditions, legal relationships between the state, family, and the individual, as well as the responsibilities and powers of authorities. In addition to conducting research and teaching at the university, Pernilla has in recent years had several assignments as an expert in legislative inquiries.

Johan Rundberg is an author who primarily writes for children in lower and middle school. He has written the Moonwind & Hoff series about children at the bottom of society in 19th-century Stockholm. The first book in the series, The Night Raven, was awarded the August Prize in 2021 in the category of Swedish children’s and young adult book of the year. Johan Rundberg received the Astrid Lindgren Prize in 2023 for distinguished authorship in children’s and young adult literature.

The new members will take up their positions on July 1st, succeeding departing jury members Henry Ascher, Annika Edlund, and Katarina Kieri.
