Ealing Book Festival launches with engaging Ruskin Park talk and book signing from Rory Cellan-Jones – EALING.NEWS – The Voice of Ealing 7 towns

Ealing’s lovers of literature have a treat in store next spring as the Ealing Book Festival comes to town, promising a programme that will please readers of all ages.

As a curtain-raiser to this hotly- anticipated local event, Rory Cellan-Jones – ex BBC technology correspondent-turned author and owner of rescue dog Sophie From Romania – was the special guest at the festival’s Pitzhanger Manor launch last Thursday (November 16 2023).

Mr Cellan-Jones – who was joined in conversation by former BBC Arts correspondent and news presenter Rebecca Jones, gave us an idea of what we can expect from the festival with a fascinating talk about his recently published novel Ruskin Park: Sylvia, Me and The BBC.

The book tells the story of the love affair between his parents, both BBC employees – which he only found out about after his mother’s death – and how it was affected by the forces of post war respectability and prejudice. It also shines a light on Rory’s own isolated childhood, as him and his brother were raised single-handedly by a mother who was also working full-time.

For younger book fans the launch also featured an event from author Judith Eagle and illustrator Kim Geyer, who promoted their new book The Hidden Songbird as they invited attendees to turn detective and help uncover the mystery of a hidden painting in the Manor.

The full programme for Ealing Book Festival, which is due to take place in April 2024, will be unveiled in due course – but it promises to deliver talks with local and international writers, as well as panel discussions, book signings and an opportunity for audiences to connect with authors and book lovers
alike.

Events will take place at Pitzhanger Manor and in the neighbouring Walpole Park. You can find out more information and updates as they are announced at the official website: www.ealingbookfestival.com
