By Renee Edwards, Program and Educational Services Director

Fairfax County Public Library’s (FCPL) Summer Reading Adventure is upon us again! This year’s program, All Together Now, celebrates the themes of friendship, kindness and unity and runs from June 16 until Aug. 18.

Participation is easy! All you need to do is earn 10 virtual badges by reading books, reading for 30 minutes, completing activities or doing a combination of all three. You can participate by signing into Beanstack or using a paper log available online and at your local library. Sign up on Beanstack now.

Once you earn 10 virtual badges, visit any library branch to get a community-sponsored coupon booklet and coupon sheet from Fairfax County Park Authority. Coupons include:

  • Friends Book Sale Coupon: $2 off any book purchase
  • River-Sea Chocolate Factory: free mini-sized chocolate bar
  • Scrawl Books: $10 off any purchase
  • Domino’s Pizza: free bread twists
  • Wendy’s: free small Frosty

This year, to add to the summer reading fun, FCPL will also be holding two contests just for teens!

14th Annual For Love of Country Essay and Poetry Contest
June 16-Sept. 2
FCPL and the For Love of Country Foundation invite rising seventh, eighth and ninth graders to participate in the “For Love of Country: In My Own Words” writing contest for a chance to win up to $100. Just create an essay or poem on the topic: “What does democracy mean to you?” More information can be found here.

Teen Chopped Challenge
June 16-Aug. 18
Create your own unique recipe for FCPL’s Teen Chopped Challenge! Use three mystery ingredients to make something fun and delicious. A limited quantity of ingredient kits will be available at select library branches beginning June 16. Intrigued and want to know more? Make sure to attend our virtual Teen Chopped Challenge Kickoff on June 20 at 4 p.m. More information can be found here.
