Sky, Pulse Films prep action drama Atomic inspired by non-fiction book | News

L-R: Alfie Allen, Shazad Latif and Samira Wiley

Sky and Gangs of London producer Pulse Films will begin shooting a five-part action series starring Alfie Allen (Game of Thrones), Shazad Latif (Magpie) and Samira Wiley (The Handmaid’s Tale) in Morocco this month.

Atomic comes from screenwriter Gregory Burke (’71) and follows two friends, played by Allen and Latif, who become swept up in a cartel’s plot to transport uranium across North Africa.

Pursued by a highly skilled CIA agent (Wiley), they then face a monumental decision: save themselves or risk everything to prevent a nuclear bomb getting into the wrong hands.

Directed by Shariff Korver (Temple), it is inspired by the non-fiction book Atomic Bazaar by Vanity Fair journalist William Langewiesche.

Atomic will be available on Sky and streaming service Now in the UK, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Austria. NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution will handle international sales of the series.

Atomic is produced by Vice Studios Group-owned Pulse Films in association with Sky Studios.

Jiwon Lee, Clare McQuillan and Ishy Din are on the writing team and the series producer is Peter McAleese. The executive producers are Jamie Hall and Judy Counihan for Pulse Films, Thomas Benski, Burke, Sam Hoyle and Megan Spanjian for Sky Studios.

Burke said: “It is a story about the terrifying prospect of a world where nuclear weapons are easier to acquire than ever before, and about the infinite possibilities that exist within the best of us and the worst of us.”
