Epic seven-game Fallout Anthology collection coming ahead of Amazon TV adaptation

Looking to brush up on your Fallout lore before the release of Amazon’s live-action TV show? Bethesda has your back.

The developer is releasing a bundle of seven PC games spanning the sci-fi franchise’s illustrious 26-year history. The six main Fallout games are all here, from 1997’s Fallout to the most recent entry, Fallout 76, along with squad-based RPG Fallout Tactics.

Best of all, the collection is housed inside a mini ‘nuclear bomb’ that emits the sound of an explosion. To squeeze them all inside the tiny projectile, Bethesda has printed the digital codes for the games on a series of seven cards featuring variations of Fallout’s Vault Boy mascot.

The lack of physical copies also means that the price is a lot more affordable compared with other special edition games. You can pre-order the Fallout S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Anthology collection for £53 before its April 11 release date.

For fans and newcomers alike, the set looks like a great way to experience the games.

Fallout takes place in an alternate history, where 1950s-style optimism, atomic energy, and a retro vision of “futuristic” tech is prevalent. After a nuclear blast devastates the Earth in the year 2077, some US citizens emerge from their government-ordained underground vaults into a ruined wasteland. Players must then battle for survival in this harsh new world overrun by mutants and warning factions.

With Hollywood taking a liking to video games, it was only a matter of time before a big studio tried to adapt the bestselling franchise. Sure enough, Amazon announced that it was making a TV series based on Fallout in July 2020. More than three years later, we’ll get to see what the apocalypse looks like on the small screen on April 12.

Despite some reviled video game movies, there’s reason to be optimistic about it. Based on the action-packed first trailer, Amazon has spared no expense on the show. It also helps that Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy are among the talent behind it. The pair obviously know a thing or two about dystopian sci-fi.
