New V/H/S Anthology Release Date & Directors Revealed, Including Mike Flanagan Collaborator’s Directorial Debut

Shudder has revealed the release date and new directing lineup for their next V/H/S anthology film, V/H/S Beyond. The V/H/S series originated in 2012 with the film V/H/S, which featured several found footage-style clips directed by numerous horror talents. Since then, V/H/S has had five sequels in the main series, including V/H/S/2, V/H/S: Viral, V/H/S/94, V/H/S/99, and V/H/S/85.

Now, Shudder has revealed the release date and new series of directors for V/H/S Beyond. The release date is October 4th of this year. The directors include Jordan Downey, Christian Long, Justin Long, Justin Martinez, Virat Pal, and Kate Siegel. The Siegel segment, titled “Stowaway,” was written by Mike Flanagan. The segment titles for V/H/S Beyond are “Stork,” “Fur Babies,” “Live and Let Die,” and “Dream Girl.” The announcement also teased a “special presentation” from Jay Cheel. Producers on V/H/S Beyond include Josh Goldbloom, James Harris, and Michael Schreiber.

V/H/S Beyond Includes A Notable Debut

Among the most notable names on the V/H/S Beyond list is Siegel. Siegel is the wife and long-time collaborator of horror visionary Flanagan, with whom she worked again for “Stowaway,” as Flanagan served as the screenwriter. Siegel’s previous credits with Flanagan include Hush, The Haunting of Hill House, and The Fall of the House of Usher, and she will also feature in Flanagan’s upcoming film The Life of Chuck. V/H/S Beyond will be Siegel’s directorial debut.

Siegel is not the only notable horror name involved in V/H/S Beyond. Horror mainstay Justin Long will pair up with his brother Christian for the segment “Fur Babies.” Though Long has frequented the horror scene, he has never been involved in a V/H/S movie either in front of or behind the camera, making V/H/S Beyond his franchise debut. Christian and Justin Long have previously collaborated on three directorial projects, including the short film Trump Baby, the miniseries The Real Stephen Blatt, and the feature film Lady of the Manor.

In addition to these V/H/S debuts, V/H/S Beyond also features the return of several talents, including Radio Silence’s Justin Martinez. This continues the V/H/S series‘ long-held tradition of combining veteran horror voices with newer talents, adding to the eclectic nature of their anthology films. V/H/S/85, for example, included The Black Phone director Scott Derrickson alongside lesser-known names such as Natasha Kermani. With a deep horror slate behind talent like Siegel and Long, it will be interesting to see what creative scares this next group of directors has in store for V/H/S Beyond.

Shot as a found footage experience, V/H/S explores several horror tales in this anthology series from Radio Silence. A group of amateur criminals films themselves heading into a mysterious house after an anonymous tipster hires them to break in and steal a specific videotape. Upon infiltrating the home, they discover the decaying body of an older man in front of a TV, prompting them to explore the last video he watched. However, what waits for them is a series of supernatural and horrific events captured on film that may endanger them as much as the victims they’re watching.
