Witsprouts Books to release anthology

A book publishing firm, Witsprouts Books, is set to release an anthology titled, Love Grows Stronger in Death, on May 24, 2024.

The collection will feature the works of 15 emerging African writers, who delve into the themes of love and loss with raw and compelling honesty.

Curated by Tope Akintayo, and edited by Ibrahim Babatunde and Basit Jamiu, the anthology is said to present a tapestry of narratives that examine how unexplored affections and missed opportunities gain profound resonance in the shadow of loss.

On how the selection process for the anthology was done, Akintayo said, “The selection process for the anthology involved curating narratives that authentically explored the depths of love amidst loss. We sought submissions that were emotionally resonant, raw, and compelling; reflecting diverse perspectives and experiences. In seeking for these kind of stories, I needed to target authors who had shown great promise in delivering fantastic stories. These are some of the most brilliant writers out there, such as Roseline Mgbodichinma, Mustapha Enesi, Chinonso Nzeh, Elisha Oluyemi, and many more.”

Asked how the balance of perspectives was achieved, he said, “Ensuring a balance of perspectives and experiences within the anthology was crucial. We actively sought submissions from writers with diverse backgrounds, identities, and storytelling styles. Challenges arose in reconciling different narrative voices and themes, but ultimately, the varied perspectives enriched the anthology, offering readers a more comprehensive exploration of love and loss.”
