Statewide contest asks children to write favorite author explaining how they have shaped their viewpoints


The Nebraska Center for the Book is inviting young people to write a letter to their favorite author, whether dead or alive, for a statewide contest.The Nebraska Letters about Literature contest asks kids in Grades 4 through 12 to write a letter to an author of any genre, dead or alive, to explain how that author has changed their viewpoints of the world.Submissions can be done online start Oct. 1 through Dec. 31.The letters will be judged by a panel and a winner and an honorable mention will be selected from each of the following levels.Level I – Grades 4 – 6Level II – Grades 7 – 8Level III – Grades 9 -12A proclamation-signing ceremony at the state capitol will take place to honor the winners during National Library Week in April 2024. The winners’ letters will also be put in the Jane Pope Geske Heritage Room of Nebraska Authors at Bennett Martin Public Library in Lincoln.Both winners and honorable mentions will receive prizes.Those wishing to send in a submission can click the link here for contest guidelines and tips on letter writing.Get the latest headlines from KETV NewsWatch 7
