The Witcher series, which has seen a lot of shake-ups since the removal of Henry Cavill as lead actor last year, will be seeing a new addition to the book series that it has been adapted from, for the first time in almost 25 years.
A New Book From Henry Cavill’s The Witcher Series To Come Out By 2025
Witcher fans have a lot to celebrate, with the new season of ‘The Witcher‘ coming out this month, however, there’s also news on the book series from which the show was adapted.
The Witcher Series has come a long way, gaining critical acclaim as a videogame franchise, after Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt by CD Projekt Red first shot up in popularity in 2015. However, the original book series was published in 1986 and hasn’t seen a new release since 1999, over 25 years ago.
Where Will The Book Be Picking Up From?
The biggest question on fans’ minds right now is where this book fits in, since the final installment in 1999 ended with Lady of The Lake and was a definitive end to the series. Unfortunately, the author Andrzej Sapkowski hasn’t revealed a lot about the upcoming novel.
Historically, he has kept quiet about upcoming releases until the debut month, with the recent announcement itself coming from a brief mention during a live stream interview. As a Polish writer, it’s also important to bear in mind that the novel will probably be published in Polish by the end of 2024 and then translated for international audiences by early 2025.
However, based on his past, it’s most likely the new book will either be a prequel or a side story taking place during the timeline of the main series. He has done this in the past with a release like 2013’s ‘Season of Storms’, which was a standalone spinoff separate from the main series.
What About The Other Witcher Works
The timing of the release is also rather interesting since there has been such a massive gap between the last book continuing the series’ narrative. Between the fourth season for the Netflix live action, which has had its own fair share of controversy after Henry Cavill left the cast and unrelated rumours surrounding the writing cast not having enough respect frm the source material.
However, it’s the animated spinoff, ‘The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep’ that will reportedly be released by the end of 2024 around the same time. It follows a similar side story that follows Geralt as he has been hired to settle a small-scale local dispute.
Some of Sapkowski’s comments seem to suggest that his story could potentially serve as a foundation for the upcoming movie. Ultimately, fans will get to find out by the end of 2024 with the actual release of the book.
